What is it like, being on retreat?

There are always lovely and surprising connections formed. There will be laughs, surprises, insights and many moments of delight. You will leave feeling inspired, nurtured and energised, knowing how to return every day to the wellness that writing can bring to your life.

There is nowhere quite like the Lake House in the world and we love what Alla Wolf-Tasker says about it:

There’s a rhythm to life at our house on the lake – a sequence of ongoing daily rituals...Bread is rolled, fresh flowers are arranged, coffee is ground, tables are set. Mountains of fresh produce come through the kitchen doors, borne by proud suppliers. Cooks butcher, peel and chop. The rhythm continues on through the day and into the evening, with the soft murmur of guests and the clink of glasses. Final lights out offers a mere few hours respite before the bakers return and the rhythm resumes once again.

Imagine then, sitting with Cath and Ali in a beautiful part of the gardens – crushing rosemary or mint between your fingers as we begin one of our favourite writing activities: letting smell take you back to a place of joy or memory – as these rhythms unfold around you.

What about the rooms?

At this stage, the Lake House have placed us in gorgeous waterfront rooms, where you can sit on your balcony and look out over Lake Daylesford. Inside are artworks by Allan Wolf-Tasker. Is there a connection between art, writing, wellbeing and a view of a lake? Oh, yes. Depending on bookings, we may be given different rooms, but we’ll be okay – they are all beautiful!

Will I be expected to share?
No! The rooms are solo occupancy.

Can I bring my ‘significant other’ given I have a king-sized bed to wake up in?

Yes, we can give you a non-participant price for your extra person. (We suspect, though, that you might want the retreat to be all about you.)

Can I book in for extra treatments at the Lake House?

Yes, please do. Make sure to book in advance to avoid disappointment. We suggest you make those times prior to the retreat beginning on Day 1, after the retreat has ended on Day 3, or from 2–5.30 p.m. on Day [1 or 2] so you don’t miss out on the great stuff we will be doing as a group. (But if you book at another time, we won’t mind! Just don’t let it clash with the massage that is part of the retreat.)

And a massage?

Yes, a one-hour massage is included in the retreat [WHEN]. The Salus Spa at Lake Daylesford will XXX.
